Rebecca "Becky" Hester, MA, LPA I am a Sylva native who completed her undergraduate work at the University of Texas, and returned to the area to graduate from Western Carolina University with a master’s degree in clinical psychology in 2002. She joined the practice of Sylva Clinical Psychology in 2017 where she primarily performed assessments, but to better meet the needs of children and family in the region, has now opened her services to offer individual therapy as well. One of Becky’s areas of focus is psychological assessment, and she offers a variety of testing including early kindergarten and gifted assessments, and full psychoeducational testing such as IQ and achievement measures to help pinpoint learning disabilities in reading, writing, and math. Becky also provides comprehensive ADHD assessments, which include a variety of tools across multiple settings, and helps her clients understand that a diagnosis is not given based on one test or score, but a combination of information and observations. To offer her patients a higher level of service, Becky has recently expanded her skill set in the area of ADHD by taking steps to earn additional certification as an ADHD Certified Clinical Services Provider (ADHD-CCSP). Becky also works with children and families during transition issues, and understands the value of having services available for you and your family in local environment where your confidentiality is of the utmost importance. In her free time, Becky enjoys spending time with her family on whatever adventures they can find, and is constantly entertained by her dogs and pet goats. She is a proud parent and an active advocate and volunteer in the public school system and the community. Becky finds a sense of humor and the ability to recognize that you always have choices, to be some of the most valuable tools in navigating life’s circumstances.
